Back in Cali

I arrived back in California last night. The trip was annoying -- first, they reassigned my seat -- rather than being in my favorite window position, they put me in the middle seat. Then, they couldn't get the engine started so we were delayed -- the maintenance crew had to come out, and then there was some issue with the papers for which he had to wait. The person who sat next to me went on about how glad she was to "get out of there" and how "weird the weather was" -- because it actually rained! " She was glad to be home. I wanted to tell her how sad I was to be getting "out of there" and tell her that "weird" weather could be easily found in a dessert not meant to sustain human life but irrigated so that it could until the population grew so large that the choice was between grass for lawns or food. But I guess that day is still coming -- please note the TV ads telling people to use pitchers for water so they can save every drop -- the faucet wastes drops. I also wanted to tell her that I was sad to be where I lived because it meant I was no longer at home.

But, I awoke this morning and feel energized. I went to the gym and did the work out Siddiqu and I had discussed when I was in Chicago. I also ate oat meal with a banana and skim milk for breakfast. Time to get healthy. Alyx wrote on my facebook page with reference to moving to Chicago. I haven't let anyone know that's my plan yet, but I've decided to leave it up. After a discussion with my old mentor, Sam, this morning, I plan on telling my department chair. But then again, I have grading to do this morning. I hope I can meet him after teaching this morning.
